The immune system is essential, giving each of us the ability to fight off disease. Immunity influences almost every medical illness, from Cancer to Diabetes. By studying the immune system, scientists are finding new ways to approach complex diseases. Through their ground-breaking research, scientists at Seattle Children's are unlocking the secrets of the immune system to prevent, treat, and cure childhood disease.
By repairing the DNA inside a gene, scientists at Seattle Children's hope to cure diseases, caused by single genetic defects in the immune system. This research is the first step in allowing scientists to discover the potential of gene repair.
To the children and their families affected by disorders of the immune system, the greatest gift this research provides is hope. Since 2003, the Gift of Immunity Guild has supported patients and families through education, community involvement, and events that bring together patients, doctors, researchers, and the community. By raising financial resources for the Immunology Research Fund, the Gift of Immunity Guild helps to make this research possible. Imagine discovering the cure for diseases that have been incurable.
This research will have a profound effect on the way we treat and cure countless diseases that afflict children and adults. This research is changing lives right now. Researchers at Seattle Children's have already developed new approaches to curing disease and are changing the way doctors treat illness, including arthritis, diabetes, primary immunodeficiency and other diseases. This research is saving lives, and we as a community have the extraordinary opportunity to be a part of it. It takes a community to cure pediatric disease. Together with our passion, determination, and ability to fund this vital research, we can find a cure.
